The Country of Facebook

In 2010 Facebook became the 3rd largest nation. On July 21st of 2010 it had reached 500 million users. Now just over a year later Faceook has 800 million active users. Yes, active users that log in regularly. With more than 70 languages available on the site and 75% of the users being outside of the United Sates “Going Global” has a new meaning for a lot of business people and companies to have their product or message heard. That means I could reach 800 million new potential customers. Granted, not everyone is going to need my services, as would be the case with any business, but the vastness is mind blowing.

I remember when myspace was the big thing and I started reconnecting with old high school friends, church friends, coworkers, and old flames. What fun it was, but it was really geared toward the young kids. How pretty could you make your background? What icon were you using to express your mood for the day? What kind of music did you like? I never really thought of using it for business purposes. Then along came Facebook.

I enjoy visiting the country of Facebook to catch up with friends, but I also love that I can use it to self promote. The use of fanpages is terrific for this! I just recently started my own fanpage www.facebook.com/renporteous so that I could start to differentiate my business/professional identity and my personal life.  I do not currently pay for any advertising on Facebook, but I do think it is a great way to reach your target market. There are other ways that require a little more leg work that can be as effective, it just depends on what your goals are.

If you are a new visitor to the country of Facebook or just need a little guidance to utilize Facebook for business I would love to talk with you and see if my services would be a good fit for you.  In the meantime enjoy visiting the 3rd largest nation in the world!
